To make a true lasting impact, program and policy must go hand in hand. At The Food Circle, we stay informed about what’s happening at a legislative level and work to keep you up to date as well.
Below are links to resources and various groups to follow if you are interested in food and farm policy and advocacy. In addition to those listed, The Food Circle will also organize various advocacy initiatives throughout the year where attendees will have the opportunity to participate in advocating at the state and/or local level for our local food system. Local & State
- Douglas County Food Policy Council – Seeks to identify the benefits, challenges and opportunities for a successful, sustainable local food system in Douglas County, Kansas.
- Empower Missouri – Empower Missouri works to secure basic human needs and equal justice for every person in our state through coalition-building and advocacy.
- Johnson County Food Policy Council – website coming soon
- Kansas Appleseed – a statewide advocacy organization dedicated to the belief that Kansans, working together, can build a more thriving, inclusive, and just Kansas.
- Kansas Food Action Network – a statewide network of over thirty local food, farm and policy councils that advocate for local, state and national policies.
- Missouri Coalition for the Environment – Missouri Coalition for the Environment (MCE) is Missouri’s independent, citizens’ environmental organization for clean water, clean air, clean energy, and a healthy environment.

- Climate Council KC – To educate, partner, and advocate for solutions that reverse global warming.

- Growing and Equitable and Sustainable Food System: A Plan for Collaborative Action in KC – This project was a collaborative effort between organizations representing a broad range of expertise and experience from across the regional food system.
- Kansas City Young Farmers Coalition – Involvement the KC chapter provides a platform for participation in local, state, and national policy campaigns on issues that affect new farmers.
National
- Civil Eats Food Policy Tracker – A resource for staying up to date on actions taken by the president, federal agencies, and Congress that directly relate to or have significant implications for the food system.
- Food Research Action Network (FRAC) – FRAC improves the nutrition, health, and well-being of people struggling against poverty-related hunger in the United States through advocacy, partnerships, and by advancing bold and equitable policy solutions.
- National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) – An alliance of grassroots organizations that advocate for federal policy reform to advance the sustainability of agriculture, food systems, natural resources, and rural communities.
