About The Food Circle

Our Mission

Through education, collaboration and advocacy, we empower consumers and institutions to make informed decisions about local food and support farmers in building economically responsible businesses.

Our Vision

A resilient food system where access to and availability of locally produced food is in healthy demand and farmers are deeply valued.

A Brief History & A Look Forward

If you’re thinking to yourself, wait, this name sounds familiar. You’re right! The origins of the KC Food Circle date back to 1988. Those early days were volunteer-led and since its inception, dozens of food producers, local food system advocates, and other stakeholders have contributed to the program’s vitality and success, some of whom are still involved today!

The KC Food Circle membership is now a program of The Food Circle, a nonprofit where we’re expanding on those early efforts and also branching out to fit the needs identified by our members in today’s local food system landscape. While we will always work alongside and in support of farmers and local food businesses, we also see a great need for consumer support through education, advocacy and access to local food. When we empower folks to prioritize purchasing food locally, it’s not only supporting farmer livelihoods, it’s supporting our local economy, our environment, our health and the health of our communities. Please join us in supporting (and eating!) local food and become a part of The Food Circle!
