Robert Hickerson is the owner, operator, and steward of Table View Farm, located in Franklin County, Kansas. As a one-person operation, Robert manages every aspect of the farm—from soil preparation and planting to harvesting, marketing, and composting—with a focus on efficiency, balance, and care for the land.
Table View Farm supplies fresh vegetables and fruit to Lawrence Farmers Market and Cottin’s Hardware Farmers Market in Lawrence, Kansas., emphasizing quality, nutrition, and the connection between growers and eaters. At the heart of Robert’s work is a belief that healthy soil grows healthy food and healthy communities. This philosophy guides his organic growing practices and his commitment to regenerative soil management.
In addition to farming, Robert runs the Community Supported Composting Bucket Swap, engaging households and local businesses in minding the gap in the food cycle. By taking something nobody wants and turning it into something everyone needs, this project diverts waste from landfills while producing nutrient-rich compost that fuels the next growing season.
Robert also leads Mad Science Monday, a community book club focused on soil health. The group not only reads and discusses leading works on soil biology, composting, and regenerative farming, but also puts new insights into practice—experimenting, observing, and learning directly from the soil itself.
Through these efforts, Robert demonstrates that even small-scale, one-person farms can model sustainability, resilience, and local impact. By transforming waste into abundance, cultivating community engagement, and nurturing the living soil, Table View Farm stands as a model for the power of thoughtful stewardship and hands-on learning.
