Big News! The Food Circle is Officially 501(c)(3)

May 15, 2026 | Claire Sinovic

Dear Friends,

We’re excited to share that as of January 2026, The Food Circle has officially received federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status! This is an important milestone for any nonprofit organization. For us, it represents nearly a year of planning, partnership and support from so many people who believe in The Food Circle’s efforts in connecting local farmers and eaters.

As we celebrate this moment, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kansas Common Sense Fund for serving as our fiscal sponsor during our early stages. Their guidance, encouragement and administrative support helped us get off the ground and begin this work with confidence and stability. We’ll forever be deeply grateful for their partnership and belief in our mission. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out their project, Stories of Real Kansans. These important stories help shine a light on barriers and successes felt by our neighbors. Through authentic storytelling and beautiful photos, these stories humanize and personalize policy conversations, educate decision-makers, and inspire civic engagement. We were thrilled to contribute to the Agriculture series and help amplify the voices of many of our KC Food Circle farmer members.

The Food Circle has always been rooted in the idea that thriving farmers and thriving communities go hand in hand. Our new status strengthens our ability to work toward our vision of a resilient food system where access to and availability of locally produced food is in healthy demand and farmers are deeply valued.

We’re energized for what’s ahead and incredibly thankful to have so many amazing champions in our corner helping bring this vision to life.

Thank you for being part of The Food Circle community. We can’t wait to continue growing alongside you!

Claire & Rachael
